The Day Chris left

Today we took Chris to the airport so he could leave for training at Ft. Dix in New Jersey. He will leave from there and be deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan until the end of March/first of April. I was so proud to be an American today. As we were walking to the gate, several people would stop Chris and thank him for his service to our country and would thank us as a family for our sacrifice. Everyone was okay until they said Chris's zone was boarding and then we all broke down. Rachel wouldn't even give him one more kiss because she was crying so hard. Jason was so brave until after Chris got on the plane and then he broke down, too. We sat in the waiting area for about 5 minutes just holding each other and crying. I felt like we were on display, but I didn't care, b/c I think most people don't realize how this war is affecting families.
After we left the airport we already had to laugh because as were leaving the parking lot, a bottle of apple juice fell over in the van and spilled everywhere, and my first thought was, "and so it starts."
Chris has made it successfully to Ft. Dix; hope to hear from him tomorrow. The hardest part for me is going to bed each night without my security beside me. Please pray for my thoughts and sleep each night and for him as he is gearing up for some intense training on Monday.
